2. Bunker Hill, Los Angeles: Reminiscences
of Bygone Days.
Palm Desert, CA: Desert Southwest, Inc., 1964.
Politi did not work in a photographically realistic style, but his
watercolor and gouache elevation of Bunker Hill for this book's
endpapers reflect a long-time resident's knowledge.
He drew this bird's-eye view of its eastern face from the vantage
point of Third and Broadway on the old Municipal Water and Power Building's
roof. Politi reinserted buildings that had been destroyed using old
sketchbooks and his memory. The resulting design is as much imaginative
reconstruction as it is documentation.
