Hill in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles was one of Politi's favorite subjects (the district is bounded by Hill and Main Streets on the east and west and 3rd and 9th Streets on the north and south). This illustration
shows Bunker Hill in the early twentieth century, which developer
Prudence
Beaudry had transformed into an exclusive neighborhood of elegant
Victorian mansions. Residents went up and down the 350-foot hill
via Angels Flight, the world's shortest funicular railroad,
whose track is to the left of the picture.
