8. La récréation: Journal des écoliers,
volume 2, number 13 for January 1834.
The author of this article promises his young readers that they will
be able to construct their own magic lantern out of wood for much less
than it would cost to purchase one (notice that the type to be constructed
is nearly identical to the one depicted in number 1).
In the best—or worst—tradition of crafts magazines, the
instructions presume a very high level of proficiency on the part of
the eager little
fabricator. Once the projector is finished, the author assures his
readers, they may now begin the much easier and agreeable job of painting
the slides—but promises the all-important information on mixing
the paints in his next!
