Originally mounted in the gallery
of the Cotsen Children's Library during the summer of 2001, this exhibition
was supposed to lower the temperature a few degrees for our visitors
who weren't able to escape to the pool or to the Jersey shore on steamy
days.
It was just for fun, so we looked for illustrations that captured
the sensations of being by or in the water so the accompanying
labels could be brief.
For this virtual version, there is more information
about the stories and their illustrators of the sort you might learn
during a gallery talk.
While this isn't a substitute for seeing the originals on display,
we hope you'll enjoy this sampling of the many images of swimming
from the collection of the Cotsen Children's Library wherever
your terminal may be.
