The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck.
London, New York: Frederick Warne & Co., 1908.

Here Jemima accepts the gentleman with the sandy whiskers' disingenuous offer of a safe nesting place in his summer house. Like an inexperienced girl, the duck puts so much faith in appearances that she overlooks certain troubling circumstances. Anyone that nicely dressed who takes such an interest in her eggs could not possibly intend any harm, even if he does have a long bushy tail and his summer house is full of bird feathers.

Readers of The Tale of Mr. Tod will guess the foxy gentleman's true identity. But if you don’t recognize him, read on at Project Gutenberg. (Image Credits)
