Between 1932 and 1937, Guertik, who was a friend of Nathalie Parain, produced eleven books, including three coloring books about animals. Unlike most coloring books, which offer banal outlines on white pages, Guertik provided children with beautiful, sophisticated artwork presented as negatives against colored backgrounds.
