Preservation masters

Preservation Masters are microform negatives (normally film) produced in-house for preservation purposes for materials of significant research value, and which are not widely held by other institutions.

They are always housed in FilmP (in underground storage in Pennsylvania) .

Their value in the fixed field Generation is a, for a first generation master.

Preservation Masters will be treated as new titles. This will apply even if a catalog record describing the original work, or a catalog record describing another type or generation of photoreproduction representing the original work, is already established in the PUL catalogs.

Original cataloging at the fullest standard will normally be required and applied to Preservation Masters.
