General criteria for inclusion on the Library's Electronic Journals web
page:
- Title must be "selected" – either a selector has specifically
ordered the e-version, or the e-version is automatically included with a
print subscription, or the title is included in a package to which the Library
subscribes. For titles that are freely available on the Web, either a selector
must request cataloging, or we must also have its print counterpart cataloged.
- Content must be full text, not just abstracts or tables of contents, and
not just selected issues/sections. (A very few exceptions have been made.)
- Access must be expected to be somewhat stable and ongoing, and a stable
URL must be available. Trial subscriptions are listed on a different web
page. Titles included in large aggregator packages (e.g. ProQuest), which
are notorious for continually losing & gaining content, are not listed.
- Title generally should be of "journal" type – i.e., a periodical
or an annual, NOT a newspaper or a monographic series. Working papers,
conference proceedings, and annual reports, though their e-versions may
be reflected in the catalog, generally are not added to the e-j page. (A
very few exceptions have been made.)
