5xx (Notes)

Generally accept all notes on LC copy.

Add bibliography (504) and/or index notes (400) as applicable. (NOTE: do this ONLY for CIP, regular LC copy do NOT check for missing notes.) The notes are structured in the following manner:

When the book has bibliographical references throughout:
504 __ Includes bibliographical references.

When the book has a single bibliography, include its pagination in parentheses:
504 __ Includes bibliographical references (p. 310-311).

If the item has an index (but no bibliography), include the not:
500 __ Includes index.
or
500 __ Includes indexes.

When there is a bibliography and an index, the notes are merged:
504 __ Includes bibliographical references (p. 310-311) and index.
