250 (Edition statement)

• If there is an edition statement on the copy and you can verify that a close approximation to it exists in the book, accept the copy's 250 formulation as it stands. The number of the edition should match exactly. Edition statements may be abbreviated--when abbreviating, use the rules of the language of the item.
  
  
• If there is no 250 on the copy, insert one only if you find a formally presented statement on the book.
  
  
• If your book has something different than what is on the copy, set it aside and seek advice on how to handle it.
