Vue en Perspective de Trianon du côté du jardin
[Perspective View of Trianon from the Garden Side]
As Versailles grew in size and importance, Louis XIV had two “satellites” constructed nearby as alternatives to, and escapes from, the main palace. The first of these was Trianon, erected in 1670 and upgraded in 1687. The second was Marly, which gradually became the aging king’s favorite residence. Both sites were remarkable as much for their gardens as for their palaces.
