Medals of the Red Cross
The International Committee of the Red Cross has been active in Latin America for more than a century. It operates in accordance with official agreements signed with host governments. The Red Cross preserves its private character in providing health services and disaster relief, but coordinates its action with the public sector. Many local Red Cross societies have instituted their own orders and medals, which they award to volunteers for meritorious service as well as to other individuals who have provided services of benefit to the Red Cross.
