The oasis of Tozeur, capital of Djerid or the Lake Region (Southern Tunisia). Located on the edge of the desert, it is a very ancient city. The brick houses are decorated in a unique way. There are 400,000 Date Palms at the oasis, making for much trade in dates. The springs, often warm, are the source of Djerid's wealth. Waters flow into the garden by means of numerous canals. In some places the vegetation looks like a rainforest. The population is very picturesque. The water-seller carries his ware to homes. The young Arabs enjoy the game of checkers.
