Abstract:
Reconstructed for François I in 1519, this castle is considered a wonder of the Renaissance. The Castle forms a rectangle of 156 meters by 117 meters, with angles flanked by large turrets. A small stream called "le Cosson" once fed into the pits before King Stanislas ordered it filled. Chambord was the place of predilection of François I and it was the meeting place for the hunting adventures of the two Counts of Blois. The staircases are famous for their double spirals: two people, one going up and another coming down, are not able to meet.
