Near East Headings in Non-Near East Cataloging

Personal and corporate names for NACO that are derived from Near East languages should be referred to the appropriate language cataloger (for Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, or Turkish). This does not apply to authors who write exclusively in English or another Western language. If in doubt, refer the heading to the NACO Coordinator.

The NE cataloger will search the heading in the vernacular, either establish the heading or add an arbitrary ref. in the vernacular as appropriate, and determine whether or not the heading should be provisional. The book and NACO form will be returned to you as soon as possible. Items may also be assigned uniform titles and/or Richardson call numbers.
