Definition of "Usage"Usage is defined as a literal transcription of a name as it appears in a publication, most commonly as transcribed in a bibliographic record in a statement of responsibility. Literal transcriptions may also occur elsewhere in a record, as in the title or in an at head of title note. If the name appears in a bibliographic record, but the transcription cannot be assumed to be literal (e.g., it appears in an informal note), use the label variant: and do not take it into consideration as usage. |
